Dyeing to finish

Posted by: Ellie on: July 31, 2007

I’ve been distracted from knitting on two pairs of socks by some adventures in kool aid dyeing of yarn. I find the process fascinating and I’ve managed to at least turn my fingers pink. Also some yarn, but I am basically practicing on some bargain fingering wool I got on ebay a while ago, until [...]

You Are the Thumb

You’re unique and flexible. And you defy any category.
Mentally strong and agile, you do things your own way. And you do them well.
You are a natural leader… but also truly a loner. You inspire many but connect with few.You get along well with: The Middle Finger
Stay away from: The Pinky

SOS# 4 and plans for #5

Posted by: Ellie on: July 26, 2007

I have knitted down to the ankle on the first Saucy sock. It is such a beautiful pattern and easy to knit. I am now working on the leg of the second sock so I can do the heels at the same time, since the directions seem a little tricky. I’ll post pictures tomorrow. I [...]

SOS #4 Begun and a Harry Potter story

Posted by: Ellie on: July 22, 2007

I started SOS #4. Here is my progress so far. Although progress will be slower since Harry Potter arrived and I am reading a little at a time. I want to sit down and read it all, but then it will be done and there will be no more. So I am rationing the reading, [...]

SOS #3 Socks Done

Posted by: Ellie on: July 21, 2007

So I got a lot of knitting done in my hotel room and on the plane. I finished up the toes this morning. I did these with Yarn Botanika Merino/Tencel yarn in Aquamarine. The yarn was wonderful to work with and they are so very soft.

On another note, earlier this summer, Katie and I went [...]

Training in Montreal and my SOS Socks

Posted by: Ellie on: July 21, 2007

So I arrived in Montreal to give a training class for my clients’ QC lab last night. We were scheduled for a three hour session. While waiting for my plane at the airport yesterday, the Director of the lab called and was worried about his staff falling asleep in the training because it was so [...]

Non-knitting related rant

Why do we have such bad luck with contractors? We are currently having our walkway and retaining wall in the front of our house  rebuilt, and while I think the quality of the work is adequate, the reliability of the contractor is not. Repeatedly says he will finish x day or x weekend and then [...]

SOS#3

Posted by: Ellie on: July 12, 2007

I’ve begun my third sock, using the Embossed Leaves pattern from Interweave’s Favorite Socks book using a merino/tencel yarn from Yarn Botanika. It is so very soft and slightly shiny. Very nice to work with- they’re coming along nicely.
