New Lace Weight

Posted by: Ellie on: November 19, 2008

There is a new lace weight yarn posted in my Etsy shop. I’ve named it ElfinLace- it is heavier than some other lace weights and more like fingering. It is very soft, silk and cashmere blend. Will make wonderful fingerless gloves and mittens!

News!!!!

Posted by: Ellie on: November 15, 2008

I am so excited, one of my sock patterns from the original Crazy4Seasons Sock Club has been selected for inclusion in a new book coming from Martingale Press. I am not sure I can share any more news yet, so I’ll just start with that teaser!

New look…new website coming

Posted by: Ellie on: November 13, 2008

I’ve pretty much neglected this site for almost a year, but the good news is that I will be launching a new website in the very near future, with a coordinated look to what will remain on Etsy and help me get a larger presence on the web. I’ve got the new site all designed (by me!!) with the exception of the header images which were designed by SunandPenny on Etsy.

The new site is at here….not quite ready for prime time but take a look and let me know what you think. It is operational at the moment but I will be moving to a new host and making some other changes so while it is working right now it maybe hit or miss until all the changes are finished.

Please let me know what you think!

History in progress….

I am humbled to be living in this extraordinary time. America is truly the land of opportunity. I am proud to be an American today, and I am proud that Americans have begun to put their prejudices aside. I don’t believe that my magic wand had anything to do with it.

I was only a child when the last great President was elected but I remember the excitement of that time, and this far surpasses it.

Despite the fact that my Dad has become strangely Republican in his old age, he taught me tolerance and respect through lessons he learned while in WW2 and later when he attended college in the deep south. So thanks to my Dad for giving me those values.

Damned Belgian Security

Posted by: Ellie on: September 19, 2008

As I write this, I am sitting in the Brussels airport waiting to board my flight back home, after creating a scene at security with my knitting needles. I’ve traveled widely since 911 and never once encountered a problem with my knitting, including here in Brussels about a month ago. Not so this time. I had a pair of mittens almost complete on circular needles; one a knit picks 3mm and sadly an Addi Turbo 3mm, and a baby sweater on an circular Addi Turbo 1.5mm. I argued, I cried, and then I add to transfer the stitches on the mittens to some knit picks double points-that I was going to use to knit the thumb-no problem with those babies. And then the baby sweater, I ended up having to cut off the metal tips of the Addi because I had nothing to transfer them to. Crying all the while, my husband demanded the supervisor but he was adamant-someone had complained on another flight that someone was knitting nearby and complained to whatever the Belgian equivalent of TSA is and voila no more knitting needles. Apparently wood seems ok, and they didn’t take my two metal crochet hook nor my metal round tip scissors with which I cut off the tips of those Addi’s. I feel sick to my stomach, and outraged at the same time. Maybe I’ll be calmer when I get home in nine hours –I will have finished those mittens on the double points but not the sweater because my double points are too big. Damn it all!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello again-oh well….

Posted by: Ellie on: August 26, 2008

I am indeed still alive. I cannot believe that it is almost September, and close to two months since I’ve made an entry. I have been so busy with everything in my life. My day job has taken a lot of my time. We are just waiting for FDA to approve our drug and then the real work begins, but probably not for me, as the company is in the process of being acquired and I am likely not going to be able to continue working from home, and I am NOT moving. So I  will probably be going back to the consulting world and that would be ok too.  Oh well…

The dyeing business has had peaks and valleys, kind of a valley right now, and it discourages me. I have lots of yarn dyeing going on, but it is seems to be staying in my house and not going out as quickly. Oh well…

My daughter is back at school and I really miss her a lot. My son is home, and starting his own Sports Photography business- he has one major client, a university near Baltimore, and his work will start in earnest this coming weekend. That’s a good thing. He is such a fine photographer, it has been hard to watch him wait for the rest of his life to begin. He desperately wants to make enough money to be on his own, but I really love having him at home. Oh well…

I guess I am just in a little funk, feeling just a little under the weather, but good news from my sister in Califirnia, they sold their house, and it seems like a giant load has been lifted from their shoulders. She sounded like herself again, and even called me two days in a row, practically a miracle so I’ll end on this high note….oh good!

May is almost gone…

Posted by: Ellie on: May 26, 2008

Wow- this month went by too quickly. My son graduated from college, and went off to photograph the college baseball championships. My daughter went on a scholarship study trip to China for three weeks (can’t remember worrying this much since 1st grade- thank goodness her cell phone works there), and we have stayed home!  I have been fighting sock wars and I am almost done with my second sock for my second victim. The pattern was poorly written without enough detail for inexperienced knitters, causing a lot of consternation and many different opinions on what is the right thing to do, including my own. The pair took forever because I had to keep ripping it out, but this pair has gone very quickly since I made all the mistakes before! The color is God-awful ugly though, and I really do hate this Tofutsie yarn. It splits, it is not consistently twisted, has knots and tangles up easily. I feel bad for my next victim with this ugly color coming her way tomorrow.
